German articles: der, die, das
In German, every noun has one of three genders: masculine (der), feminine (die), or neuter (das). The article signals the gender, so learn it together with the word.
The best habit is to memorise each noun with its article — not 'Tisch', but 'der Tisch'.
💡 English has no grammatical gender, so der, die and das all translate to just 'the' — English gives you no hint about which one to use. That is exactly why you must learn the article with every noun from the very start.
